Briefly, the works comprised separate new one storey and two storey extensions at each end of the building and alterations and refurbishment of the existing areas to convert the property from a child psychiatry unit into an inpatient unit for young people aged 12-16 years with acute mental health needs.  The internal areas feature many specialist products and design work, including anti-ligature and high security areas, that give full consideration to the patients’ needs and their protection.

The contract utilised the NEC Form of contract, which promotes a non-adversarial approach and supports partnering principles.

Further works packages were negotiated following the success of the initial project.
