The works comprised the construction of a new dedicated RNLI Hovercraft Station built upon the sea bed itself adjacent to the promenade.  A demanding and unique project, the construction activities were dictated by the footprint of the building being periodically flooded by the incoming tide.  The foundations consisted of a box raft formation with a substantial retaining wall extending outwards to border a new external hardstanding, with drainage and incoming supplies including a rainwater harvesting tank.

The superstructure was based around a double curved tubular steel frame design with bespoke-cut stonework, a specialist Sto-Render system, computer-designed GRP soffits and guttering and a mechanically zipped aluminium standing-seam roof.  The site compound was split down the centre by the public right of way along the promenade, which remained open at all times.

The project was formally recognised by the RICS and we were presented with an award in 2010 under the Community Benefit category.
